Resources: Learning Google AdWords & PPC
Want to learn how to get started with Google AdWords or PPC (pay-per-click) advertising in general? Here are some online AdWords training resources I’ve found useful in the past.
Google Academy for Ads – Exam Study Guides – Academy for Ads is a great resource even if you’re not taking the exams. You can learn AdWords basics, or focus on a more specialist area such as video advertising, mobile or shopping.
(Take the exams if you’re interested in working at an agency, for more credibility if you’re a freelancer, or just to test your knowledge! You need to pass the Fundamentals exam plus one other of your choice to get certified)
Digital Garage from Google: Search marketing courses free – A series of short video courses from Google for beginners. Each section has a video lesson, ‘check your knowledge’ mini-test and a module test when you’re done. Start with “Be noticed with search ads“. [side note, if you’re in Manchester, Birmingham or Sheffield, come and see us in person for free training]
Digital Business Academy: Mastering Paid Advertising course (free) – Not AdWords specific, so good if you’re working with other platforms too and want top-level guidance on paid advertising as a channel. Good content on AdWords, Facebook and re-targeting.
Wordstream’s “PPC University” – topics broken down into PPC 101, 102, Advanced & Social, plus webinars and whitepapers on search advertising. Really good resource for beginners as well as to update your knowledge. Try their video series too!
AdWords help centre – the obvious place to start for setting up your account and troubleshooting. Within AdWords itself the little question mark bubbles you see everywhere will often direct you here for more information on the section you’re in.
